A history of caring
MSC celebrates 30 years of service
MedStar Surgery Center, formerly known as the Center for Ambulatory Surgery, Inc.,(CASI), opened in 1977. CASI is Washington, DC's first and most experienced, freestanding multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center.
We offer surgical services in orthopedic, urology, gynecology, gastroenterology (GI), pain management, podiatry, general surgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology and otorhinolaryngology. The facility has grown over its more than 30-year history and now has five operating rooms, two GI endoscopy suites and one cystoscopy room.
MSC has a local and national reputation as not only a leader, but also a pioneer in ambulatory surgery. Doctors studying alternative systems for healthcare delivery frequently visit us from other parts of the world.
MedStar Surgery Center also has a Medical Advisory Committee comprised of physicians representing the Center's various surgical specialties. In addition, MSC's Medical Director is responsible for the quality of medical care provided.
In order to maintain our high level of quality care, we created the Quality Improvement Program. This in-house program ensures that an appropriate level of care is always provided at MSC. It is a self-regulated program, which keeps us committed to the mutual goals of delivering quality care in a safe environment while achieving efficiency at a reasonable cost.
Part of our high level of quality care is due to four highly experienced, board-certified anesthesiologists on staff. Because of their dedication, our anesthesia department is one of our best assets.
